Lufthansa Boeing 747-8 Bounces on Runway at LAX, Forces Go-Around
Flight #LH456 Performs Touch and Go After Hard Landing Attempt
In a dramatic aviation incident, a Lufthansa Boeing 747-8 aircraft, operating as flight #LH456 from Frankfurt, performed a touch and go maneuver at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) after experiencing a hard landing attempt.
The flight, which departed Frankfurt at 11:20 CEST on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, was scheduled for a 13-hour journey to Los Angeles. However, upon final approach to runway 24R at LAX, the 9-year-old Boeing 747-8 (registration D-ABYP) encountered difficulties during its landing.
Eyewitnesses reported that the aircraft bounced on the runway during its landing attempt, prompting the flight crew to initiate a go-around procedure for safety reasons. The incident occurred at approximately 1:05 pm PDT and was captured on video by AIRLINE VIDEOS.
Fortunately, the skilled pilots of the Lufthansa flight were able to safely maneuver the Boeing 747-8, ultimately landing the aircraft safely on the same runway about 15 minutes later. The go-around procedure allowed the flight crew to reassess the situation and execute a successful landing without further incident.
While the exact cause of the hard landing remains under investigation, such occurrences are relatively rare and are typically attributed to factors such as adverse weather conditions, wind shear, or pilot error.
The incident serves as a reminder of the skilled training and quick decision-making required of airline pilots, especially in challenging situations. Lufthansa has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, but aviation authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
