Dubai Airports‘ CEO has outlined a vision for the new Al Maktoum International Airport, proposing a revolutionary terminal design consisting of eight smaller, intimate airports. This unique approach aims to enhance passenger experience by recreating the charm of smaller airports while sharing common runways.

Paul Griffiths, the CEO, envisions a future where airports simplify travel processes, offering seamless check-ins, intuitive navigation, and personalized experiences. “You step out of your car or air taxi, board a train, and arrive exactly where you need to be,” Griffiths explained.

The proposed concept includes an intimate concourse design, bringing lounges, restaurants, shops, and boarding gates closer together. Griffiths emphasized the importance of minimizing procedural delays, ensuring travelers spend more time enjoying airport amenities and less time in queues.

Adding to this, Dubai Airports has introduced a cutting-edge app to digitally guide passengers through terminals, offering real-time directions to shops, services, and gates.

Griffiths also raised intriguing ideas about rethinking legacy processes, such as eliminating traditional check-ins and luggage tags by embedding unique identifiers directly into suitcases.

For Griffiths, an airport is more than just infrastructure; it’s the first impression of a city. “The airport sets the tone for a traveler’s experience of a country,” he stated, emphasizing his commitment to delivering a world-class arrival experience.
