After a decade-long absence, Royal Jordanian Airlines is making a grand comeback to India, reintroducing direct flights between Amman and key Indian cities, Delhi and Mumbai. This development, set to commence in 2025, signifies the airline’s focus on tapping into growing markets with significant demand for direct air travel.
The Amman-Mumbai route will be the first to resume, with flights starting on April 16, 2025. These flights will operate four times a week, utilizing Airbus A320 aircraft. The Delhi-Amman route will follow on September 16, 2025, with Boeing 787 aircraft. Travelers can expect enhanced convenience and shorter travel times, addressing the long-standing demand for direct connectivity between the two countries.
Passenger traffic data highlights the unmet demand. In 2023, nearly 35,000 passengers flew between Delhi and Amman, while Mumbai recorded 28,000 passengers. These figures exclude self-transfer passengers and those using layover airports such as Dubai and Doha, indicating the actual demand could be much higher.
The resumption of direct flights will cater to business travelers, tourists, and the Indian diaspora in Jordan. Additionally, it will bolster cultural, economic, and tourism ties, making travel more accessible and fostering bilateral relations between India and Jordan.
Bookings for Royal Jordanian’s Mumbai flights have already opened, with the first flight departing on April 16, 2025. The Mumbai flights will operate on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with two additional flights on Mondays.
The airline plans to announce further details, including the Delhi flight schedule, at an event in Mumbai on January 8, 2025. This anticipated announcement will mark a significant milestone in reconnecting the two countries.
